What the Law Requires of a Sole Trader
A sole trader is a PCBU under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. Section 36 of the Act sets out a primary duty of care: you must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, your own health and safety and that of anyone affected by your work, including clients, other contractors, and members of the public.
Working alone does not exempt you. If your work could harm someone, you have duties, and you need to be able to show what you did about them.
Documentation is how you demonstrate that. A pack like this gives you the records to show a client, an insurer, or WorkSafe NZ that you identified your risks and controlled them.
