What HSWA 2015 Requires of You
Under Section 36 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, every PCBU has a primary duty of care to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of workers and anyone else affected by the work. That duty is not satisfied by having documents. It is satisfied by having controls that work in practice, and by being able to demonstrate that you identified risks and did something about them. An audit gives you evidence on both counts. If WorkSafe NZ turns up after an incident, the question is what you knew and what you did.
