SiteWise Prequalification Support

We prepare your documentation, build or strengthen the systems the assessment requires, and handle the submission for you. We work with you until you reach Green.

SiteWise is a contractor prequalification system run by Site Safe New Zealand. It scores your health and safety systems out of 100% and publishes the result in a database that main contractors and principals check before awarding work. You need 75% or above for Green, and 90% or above for Gold.

Two Starting Points

๐Ÿ“‹
Starting from scratch
We build an occupational health and safety management system from the ground up, then prepare and submit your SiteWise assessment. Allow six weeks or more.
๐Ÿ”ง
Improving what you have
We review your existing system, identify gaps against the 13 assessment sections, fill them, and submit. Often four weeks or less.

We quote a fixed price after a scoping call. The work depends entirely on what you already have, so we need to see it before we can price it honestly.

You Cannot Reach Green Without a Working System

SiteWise does not score your paperwork in isolation. For each of the 13 assessment sections you must upload evidence, and that evidence must be less than 12 months old.

If you have no inspection records, no training records, and no incident reports from the past year, there is nothing to upload, however well written your policies are. This is the reason documentation alone will not get you there.

SiteWise Grades

Grade Score What it means
Red 0 to 49% Significant gaps. Most principals will not award work.
Amber 50 to 74% Partial systems. Still below the threshold most main contractors set.
Green 75 to 89% The standard most clients require. Demonstrates sound health and safety systems.
Gold 90% and above Exemplary systems. Sometimes required for higher risk work.

Green is the working target. It is what most principals set as their minimum, and it also unlocks Level 2 registration (for businesses that sometimes act as main contractor). Many of our clients go on to achieve Gold.

How We Work

1
Scoping call
We go through what you have, what work you do, and what grade you need. This establishes whether a system needs building or improving.
2
Fixed quote
Based on the actual scope. No hourly rates that expand as the job runs.
3
System work
We build or strengthen the documentation each of the 13 sections requires.
4
Evidence gathering
The part that needs you. Assessors want proof the system is in use, from the past 12 months. How quickly this comes together drives the timeframe.
5
Submission
We complete and submit the assessment on your behalf.
6
Result
Site Safe grades within five to ten working days and returns a report showing where points were scored and lost.
7
Reassessment if needed
If you fall short of Green, we work through the assessor feedback with you and resubmit. First year registration includes three attempts.

Do You Need SiteWise?

There is no legal requirement to be prequalified. HSWA 2015 does not mention SiteWise, and you can operate lawfully without it.

It is a commercial requirement rather than a legal one. If you subcontract in construction, civil, or trades, you will be asked for a SiteWise grade before you can tender with most main contractors and many councils and government clients. Being below Green closes doors regardless of the quality of your work.

The duties SiteWise checks against are real duties. Section 36 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 requires every PCBU to ensure health and safety so far as is reasonably practicable. SiteWise is one way of demonstrating you have met that duty.

Yes, the assessment is annual. Once your systems are established, later years are usually much lighter work than the first.
